If you are in love with the outdoors and nature but can’t always get to places like the Greater Kruger, Kgalagadi, Botswana etc you need to find an affordable alternative to keep your photography skills fresh. Recently I was invited by P.C Ferreira to visit him on the Karoo Gariep Private Nature Reserve to see and learn more about his conservation and tourism initiatives. We stopped at PC’s place for a night on the way from CT to JHB, but it was so restful that we had to extend our stay to two nights. P.C. and his wife are wonderful hosts and the dinners are definitely the highlight of the day. We booked to go on a ‘shy 5’ night drive and were treated to sightings of Eagle Owls, Aardwolf and Spring Hares.... Read More
I have stayed a few times at New Holme on return trips from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The personal hospitality and friendliness of the hosts PC and Mariska is wonderful. PC is introducing more ecotourism features and has great birding tips.
Arriving down a long winding road, with memories reminiscent of having to stop and open and close farm gates, I wasn't expecting what i arrived at. Beautiful property, wonderful setting and incredible hosts. From playing with the pet Meerkat, yes Meerkat, to sheep and other animals wandering the grounds, it is definitly a place i will go back to. No longer will i make the Cape-JHB drive in 1... Read More

The party consisted of Rob & Margs, Deon & Gill, Jean, Cassia and I. Rob and Margs had been in Johannesburg and would meet us there on the way...

He found that the last hippos along the Seekoei River had been on his farm, where they had been hunted to extinction in the late 1700s, probably 1778. PC worked for many years to get permission to do a re-introduction, and...
